Day 4 - Part 1 Baie-Comeau to Manic Cinq

It is Thursday morning, June 9, 9 am. We are in our hotel room in Baie-Comeau and the rain continues outside.

The room still has a tangy smell to it from the leather waterproof spray Pat picked up yesterday. My boots are soaking it in along with our Frog Tog jackets. The cuffs and trim still damp where the fabric is bunched up. Pat's leaked bit more than mine and both our wet pants let some water in during the torrential, cold downpour yesterday.

We are waiting for it to warm up just a bit more before we pile on our layers & hit the road to Manic Cinq on Hwy 389. It is 8C, with light winds.

The road is described as twisty, narrow, hilly with no real shoulder. The trucks apparently barrel up there empty & drivers are advised to pull over, let them pass.

There is a hotel at Manic Cinq, the only one between Baie-Comeau and Labrador City for close to 600 km. We called ahead & yes, they are not booked out for tonight.

This run we are taking today to Manic Cinq is about 220 km. I am limiting fluids so I don't need to stop, but thinking it may be a good idea to take a short break regardless. Do some jumping jacks, run on the spot, etc to get and keep the blood flowing.

When you get cold driving a bike it becomes harder to do anything....check blind spots, keep the throttle on (I have a palm accelerator assist), shift down, (I am wearing bulky rain protector booties over my riding boots).

Pat charged up the headset and we are wearing them for the ride up for safety. Let's hope they hang in there till we arrive in Manic Cinq!

Talk again later!
