Day 3 and still raining....

As we left our hotel this morning, just east of Quebec city, we pulled off so I could take a pic of the city in the background and our bikes, with Pat astride, in the foreground. You can see the tumultuous clouds above.

Not long on the road, the rain begins and we start the long, curve filled road up to Le Massif, a ski hill about an hour east of Quebec city.

It became a bit scary with the shroud of fog & mist combined with the rain meant visibility was hampered big time. I kept hoping no moose would wander out on the road since I wouldn't be able to spot it too soon, being in the lead position.

Truck traffic another scary thing. They have a schedule & you had best not be in their path. Again, when I was in the front, Pat had a huge tracker-trailer up his butt until the road widened to 2 lanes, and the truck driver did not leave much space as he moved into the passing lane.

Overall, a very tiring day, fighting off cold, wet conditions, ongoing spray & wind from passing trucks & the ongoing push of wind from both sides, blowing to & from the countryside.

We decided to stop every 100 km or so to warm up with tea/coffee/soup & give me a chance to extricate my cold feet out of now damp boots, massage them briefly before packing them back in with some dry newspaper.

The nylon booties we've had a few years now were not in good shape & will need to dry out before Pat can duct tape them.

Beautiful scenery too...where we stopped second time was near Tadoussac. The area is big for whale watching excursions. Shortly after, we took the ferry (which is an extension of the highway) to the other side, just under a kilometre long. Busy route with many trucks aboard. We drove to the front of the line knowing that bikes are most times put at the front of most ferries.

The headsets worked well today but with the heavy rain, we thought it best to tuck them away.

Tonight we are at a motel in Baie-Comeau, drying out. Tomorrow, more rain is forecasted.
We hope that will be the last of it for now. The plan is to arrive at Manic Cinq on Hwy 389, about 215 km from here and stay at the only motel in the area tomorrow night. Apparently the tour of Manic Cinq is a real eye opener as it is among the largest hydroelectric power dams, capable of producing more than 1 million watts.

Total mileage today: 410 km
